you're a hobbyist who's interested to know more than just when to
plant read on
There are around 300,000 different species of plants on Earth ranging
in size from the tiny duckweeds (only a few millimeters high) to
the giant sequoias of California that reach 90 meters (300 feet)
high.
Plants play a vital role in the ecosystem, taking in the carbon
dioxide we exhale and giving back oxygen. This process is a component
of photosynthesis, whereby green plants synthesize carbohydrates
(sugars) that are stored in the leaves of the plant using CO2, water
and light. Animals in the food chain, including humans, rely on
plant growth for food, medicine and life-giving oxygen.
If you're concerned about the fact that almost two acres of rainforest
disappear every second, consider planting a shrub or a tree. Every
little gesture to preserve out natural environment makes difference.
